Sitting Sheriff to be Challenged by a Man of the People

Summary: Justice Jerry L. Roberts is leaving the office of Justice of The Peace to pursue the office of Faulkner County Sheriff.

Leland “Yogi” Zimmerman recently announced his candidacy for justice of the peace for District 10. He is running as a Republican in place of Justice Jerry L. Roberts, who currently holds the position. Justice Jerry Roberts will be leaving the office to run for Faulkner County sheriff.

Zimmerman said at a recent forum that he is a fiscal and social conservative with wide business experience. Zimmerman is a retired CPA and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM). He has more than 49 years experience in public, private and governmental accounting and finance. He has a bachelor of arts degree from Ouachita Baptist University with a major in accounting and a minor in economics. Zimmerman is married to Marguerite Fielding Zimmerman. They have four grown sons and 11 grandchildren and have lived in Faulkner County for 34 years. All of their sons are graduates of Vilonia High School.

During his announcement, Zimmerman said, “I feel that my broad background in accounting and finance will give me the skills necessary to make a positive contribution to the government of Faulkner County. I will always be open to ideas from my constituents and my peers on the Quorum Court, as well the other elected officials of Faulkner County. I look forward to the campaign and the opportunity to meet the residents of JP District 10.” Roberts said, “I would have been happy just remaining the JP from the 10th District of the current sitting sheriff, Karl Byrd, had kept his word and ended the coverup of the Pamela Faye Felkins case, like he promised. Since he has joined in the coverup, I have no choice but to come out of retirement and run for the office myself as I can guarantee that if elected by the people, I will end the coverups, clean up the office, get it running correctly, train my replacement and retire again.”
